So…I had a spare Jocko drawing. I had done this one before, I thought, “Did I draw Colossus? I think I drew Colossus” and I shelved it because I wasn’t 100% sure about it. But I came across this clip this morning, didn’t have time to draw a completely new Jocko so here’s this one!

I’m definitely one of those people that’s lied to myself before. I’m going to build this app or draw this book or whatever; I put the idea out there or reserve the domain name and then….nothing. I got a little bit of credit for saying I was going to do a thing and then absolutely failed to do that thing. It’s not a good feeling and doing it a lot of times starts making the promises you make to yourself not worth the breath they’re spoken with.

The crazy thing about it? The promises we make don’t even need to be that big. “I’m going to run for an hour a day” is ridiculous if you currently don’t run at all. “I’m going to study my Bible for 30 minutes” is unrealistic if you never open it as it is. If you’re a liar, and I think we all tell ourselves lies from time to time, feel free to set the bar on the ground.

Turn “I’m going to run an hour a day” into “I’m going to walk for 5 minutes today.”

Turn “I’m going to study my Bible for 30 minutes” into “I’m going to open my Bible and read one sentence.”

Turn “I don’t think this picture is perfect so I’m going to cowardly shelve it” into “I show my work with it’s flaws and imperfections because showing up is the goal not perfection.”

Well that got personal. There’s your window into an artists insecurities.

At least for today, I was about it instead of just being a liar. 🙏🏻 Thanks to Jocko and Echo Charles. 🙌🏻
