“You can only feel as complete in marriage as you do while standing alone.”

@debrafileta

I have a theory about marriage and it’s based on math because math makes more sense to me than people do. Well, high school math at least; anything beyond that is really just magic to me. Frankly I don’t know much about anything but this is the internet so here’s my opinion anyway!

I think God created marriage to have multiplicative benefits, not additive benefits. So, let’s say two people are a “3” of completeness. When they enter into a marriage they have a “9” marriage like so:

Husband (3) * Wife (3) = Marriage (9)

If it was additive, they’d just have a 6 marriage but I feel like God created marriage to produce fruit way beyond what two people pooling their resources could do. Your friends are additive but your marriage is multiplicative.

However, what happens when people aren’t complete and enter into marriage? The incompleteness is *multiplied.* So:

Husband (.5) * Wife(3) = Marriage (1.5)

So what does this mean? That with a contrived example you can prove almost any point! Wait that’s not it. It means, like Debra points out, you can’t rely on a marriage to complete you; It doesn’t work that way. If you desire a complete marriage, it starts with being a complete person.

Using this same math-based approach I think kids are exponential but that’s a topic for another post. 🤓
