This is my evolving note around the video I’m creating about sketch notes…or visual note taking…or doodle notes? Geez there are a lot of names around this whole trend.

I’m going to call it “Why you should totally Draw at Church!” and it’s going to center around the idea of how quickly we forget the sermon we hear every Sunday morning and how to better capture that content. I know for me, without taking notes I would instantly forget what the sermon was about or just about any point that was made. The study I read said after a week you can only remember 10% of what was said and when it comes to sermons I’d venture that 10% has more to do with the worship music than the actual sermon. Anyway, I found traditional note-taking kinda stressful - I’d miss a lot, I was really worried about the formatting and it wasn’t something that I’d really pay attention to after the service was over.

I got a copy of the excellent “Sketchnote Handbook” by Mike Rohde @rohdesign (and built on that with the excellent “Art of Visual Notetaking” by Emily Mills @emily_a_mills ) and entered a world where taking notes was not only fun - but actually useful! Now I relish the opportunity to take notes - learning new things has become interesting to me again and sharing it with other people has only made for a richer experience.

Anyway, there’s a lot more for me to do. I had the opportunity to be a zoom call this last weekend to talk about doodle notes (that’s the name I settled on at that time 🤷‍♂️) and it was really inspiring to me. I think I learned more than the kids and I received some great feedback on how to do things better. I hope I get to do more in the future!

I don’t know where any of this is going to take me but I’m trusting in Jesus and where ever He leads I want to follow!
