Can I use a sports analogy? I’m going to use a sports analogy…

I’ve been coaching youth basketball for a while and I’m not a super-experienced coach but I do know a few things about fundamentals. I don’t really bother with making plays and workings on finer points of the game when kids don’t know how to move, don’t know where to be, and don’t know to communicate. Notice, none of those things involve a ball - all of those things deal with basic athleticism. A kid that has a firm foundation in being an athlete will excel in any sport he or she is dropped into. A kid can have amazing IQ about a single sport but will reach a point where their athleticism will either hinder them or propel them forward.

My point in saying this is that with a contrived example you can prove almost any point. Wait that’s not it. My point is, I really do think there are foundational issues of the faith that we should always point to. Like Ruslan eloquently points out in this video specifically from 1 Corinthians 15 - the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a first tier issue. Your church denomination, political party, views on creation, etc are not. I feel like there is a portion of people who would say they are deconstructing that believe fully in the resurrection but are trying to strip away those other parts that are secondary in nature that have led to damage in some sort of way.

Even the issue of deconstruction should be secondary. If brothers and sisters have questions we should welcome them. Let’s figure out the truth together while standing on the single issue that should unite us all. Let’s be experts on the fundamentals so we can learn the finer points of the game.
