Is it just me or are there whole sections of social media dedicated to producing reaction videos or criticisms? Don’t get me wrong, every time a new comic book comes out I watch ALL of the commentary/review videos. I recognize there’s a place for criticism. I think there’s a difference here that Adam is describing. One method makes the thing being commented on better or it helps the person make their own thing or it helps us understand how we can make our own stuff better. But that other type of criticism, the one that just seeks to tear apart and mutilate, it makes you wonder what they are actually critical of? Maybe it’s their frustration with their own lack of creative ability or output? As far as I can tell - the most critical people I know of don’t have much of a body of work for others to critique.
