Anything motivated by self-fulfillment or self-improvement…

“Anything motivated by self-fulfillment or self-improvement is not a worship of God, it’s a worship of self.”

@ruthchousimons of @gracelaced

I had so many doubts from reading this. I’m a former self-help addict currently undergoing recovery. Seriously; it’s been 1 day since my last fix. For me, there’s always another tool, another app, another methodology right around the corner that’s going to change my life and allow me to do all the stuff I committed to even without addressing the one thing I need to address above all else:

I am unable to be perfect and need to be ok with that.

I kept coming back to this quote from Ruth because there’s so much truth to it. I don’t believe that these things are *bad* but like a lot of what I speak about here it really depends on your heart when doing them. I can’t fulfill myself. The tools to do it *appear* to be there but I feel like they leave me frustrated and disappointed when I rely on them. There is no perfect tool or app or methodology waiting to change my life. The Holy Spirit is waiting to change my life and once I stop playing this game of trying to do it myself; maybe that’s when it will come in and do the work it’s been waiting to do.

I do not need another book - you guys - I have SO.MANY.BOOKS. But I saw Ruth’s latest book “When Strivings Cease” is in stock at my local Target and I have to go by there today so no promises. 🤷‍♂️
